IAB
The IAB is unique in that it is both a professional body for book-keepers and it is an awarding body recognised and regulated by the relevant government authorities in England (Ofqual), Wales (DCELLS) and Northern Ireland (CCEA).
The current range of IAB qualifications now numbers more than 20 and includes qualifications in bookkeeping, accounting and payroll, both manual and computerised. Several of these qualifications have been granted exemptions by the UK chartered accountancy bodies - ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA. The effect of this is to extend the skills of learners and also to provide complete progression routes from Level 1 through to Level 4 and on to a range of financial careers including Registered Bookkeeper, Chartered Accountant and Payroll Professional.
For the first time in England and Wales, Apprenticeships in Bookkeeping have been created and were launched in 2011, along with a revised Payroll Apprenticeship. These funded training programmes have been devised in response to an evident need for these skills in smaller and micro businesses as well as larger entities.
Working with the Financial Skills Partnership and other awarding bodies, the IAB played a leading role in the creation of these apprenticeships. Currently, the IAB’s qualifications are the ‘main’ qualifications in the Bookkeeping Apprenticeships, having also the added, innovative advantage of being completely assessed through a combination of
in-course assignments, tests and exams provided by the IAB.
