IMA
The Investment Management Association (IMA) is the trade association for 185 firms, which together manage £3.9 trillion for domestic and international clients and account for over 90% of the investment management industry in the UK.
Its role is to represent the interests of the industry to government and regulators in the UK and internationally, and to promote high standards within the industry.
If you have a pension, a stocks and shares ISA, a unit trust or life assurance policy, your money is being looked after by the investment management industry. Clients' money is invested worldwide in a broad range of asset classes and products, including shares, bonds, property, money market and hedge funds.
Whether you want to be a fund manager or to work in one of the many other roles within the industry, it is important that you demonstrate to an employer that you understand the industry. The best way to find out what is happening in the sector is to visit the IMA’s website where you will find the latest trends and news. You can download surveys, statistics and reports which will help you increase knowledge of the investment sector and prepare for an interview.

CISI
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment is the largest and most widely respected professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK and in a growing number of major financial centres round the world. Evolved from the London Stock Exchange, we now have more than 40,000 members in 89 countries. The CISI is committed to widening opportunities for young people to enter the financial services sector.
As a school pupil who might be thinking about a career in financial services, you should consider looking at and understanding information on managing personal finance. Once you have a better understanding of personal finance, you may decide to take a qualification that is relevant to financial services, which will enhance your future career prospects. The CISI has worked closely with the Investment Management Association (IMA) to develop the Introduction to Investment: Foundation Qualification which we are currently delivering in schools and colleges. This qualification is regarded as the basis for a range of jobs within financial institutions that are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the UK regulator. Candidates who complete the qualification can apply for jobs with financial services firms working in call centres, customer services, sales & marketing and even on graduate training schemes. If you enjoy doing the Introduction to Investment, you can go on to complete the full Investment Operations Certificate (IOC, formerly known as IAQ), as this qualification is also the first unit of the IOC. The IOC is also part of the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Providing Financial Advice."
